We are so glad you have decided to join us. Here are a few things you will want to know…
RECITAL INFORMATION
Fall Elementary Recital (late October or early November)
Open to students up through 6th grade.
Any level of piece is fine but limited to no more than 4 minutes in length.
A teacher may play with a student if and only if that student would not or could not otherwise play.
Costumes may be allowed in keeping with the theme of the recital; otherwise, appropriate recital dress is required.*
Each student pays a $5.00 fee to enter recital.
Mezzo Recital (fall, usually same day as Elementary Recital)
Open to students 6th grade through adult.
Selections limited to no more than 4 minutes in length and should not be above intermediate level.
Appropriate recital dress is required.*
Each student pays a $5.00 fee to enter recital.
Ensemble Recital (late February or early March)
Open to any age student.
Ensembles must be duets or larger or student soloists with student accompanists. Teachers may accompany an ensemble, but may not participate in an ensemble except in the instance of a student unable to attend due to illness or family emergency.
Any level of piece is acceptable. Ensembles of 4 or fewer are limited to 5 minutes. Groups larger than 4 are limited to 8 minutes.
Appropriate recital dress is required.*
Each HDMTA student pays a $5.00 fee to enter recital; non HDMTA members may be part of an ensemble (comprising no more than 50% of the group) but must pay a recital fee of $8.00. Students may participate in more than one ensemble, and are only required to pay one fee.
Honors Recital (May)
Open to students 6 th grade through 2 nd year college.
Students must qualify for recital through HDMTA workshop, SCSBOA Festival (with a rating of “Superior” or “Excellent”), MTAC (with a rating of “Honors”), or through the Peter Pinto Scholarship or Young Artist Auditions. Exceptions may be made by the committee.
Selections performed at the recital must be the same as what was adjudicated.
Selections limited to no more than 5 minutes in length.
Each HDTMA students pays a $5.00 fee to enter recital, unless they have participated in the HDMTA workshop, in which case their fee is waived.
Appropriate recital dress is required.*
Individual Studio Recitals (December and May)
Open to HDMTA teachers.
Fee (generally $25 per 1-hour slot) is paid by each individual teacher to the hosting church.
Appropriate recital dress is required.*
Each teacher is required to stay until the next teacher arrives.
*APPROPRIATE RECITAL DRESS:
Men: Collared shirts and nice pants. Ties are optional, but encouraged. Dress shoes are preferred, no flip-flops, slippers, sandals, or Crocs allowed. Socks should match the shoes or the pants. No underclothing should show at any time.
Women: Dresses, skirts, or dressy slacks. Dresses and skirts must cover the knee when sitting. No bare midriffs. Dress shoes are preferred. Dress sandals are OK, but no flip-flops, slippers, or Crocs. No underclothing or straps should show at any time.
If students arrive at a recital improperly dressed, the teacher has the option of refusing to let them participate, or to allow them to wear a choir robe.
